    2012 X5d JBD

Being that this is a JBD question, I posted on Terry's forum and got no response. I guess I should have posted here first.

I just picked up a new ride for the wife. We tow a boat that is roughly 5500 lbs loaded. Does anyone know if I can tow with the JBD tuner installed or will EGTs get too high? Will I need the code clearing tool or is it possible to use the COBB I use for my 535 to clear any potential error codes?

    Thanks!

    Eric

I don't think you will have a problem if anything it should make towing easier.

Do you have any exhaust mods?

Also let's see if @Terry@BMS can chime in as I know he had a diesel X5.

No exhaust mods yet. It's completely stock and actually pulls pretty good but, there's always room for improvement. I haven't seen too many available mods for it yet. Definitely not like an N54!

Unfortunately you're limited to basic bolt ons.

If you're concerned I'd say do some logging but really I think you'll be fine.

You should be fine. I actually towed with my 335d with the JBD with no issues (buttttt...I had meth injection, too, so a slightly different scenario which clearly would have had an impact on EGTs).

    Hi Ronin,

I have been towing with it at about the 80% setting. No problems to report. Tows the boat flawlessly. Thanks!

I know I'm a little late on this post but I towed a 6000lbs. Camper from Louisiana to Yellowstone with a 2011 X5 35d jbd installed at 100% and it did just fine. Even on long uphill pulls in West Colarado it would pull boost when egts got up a bit. Even managed 12.75mpg for the trip. It is safe to tow with a jbd installed.
